One Book Two Book - Books for Kids of All Ages

The New Kid on the Block, Poingo!

by Marcie on September 5th, 2008

I was so excited about this product I couldn’t contain myself…and it’s not even on the shelves yet. There is only myPoingo.com to learn about Poingo…nothing on the shelves. My guess is that it will be the hottest new Holiday present.

Poingo is an all new product for your little guys who are just learning how to read and loving it. I have one on order through the company (I think they saw how excited I was and gave in) and can’t wait to get it.

Representing the next generation in interactive books – made simple –Poingo™ makes books “come alive” for children. Poingo enables kids ages 3 to 7 to unlock hidden treasures on every page, triggering exciting elements of discovery, exploration and surprise. Using penshaped Poingo to touch pictures or text, children bring their favorite characters to life with words, sounds and music. Poingo is “fun right out of the box,” with no complicated instructions, so kids simply turn it on, point and go. An infrared scanner “reads” microscopic symbols throughout the book, which triggers Poingo to provide the audio through an onboard speaker.

Technical Information: Poingo is powered by two AAA batteries and includes a headphone jack for quiet play. Poingo features 256 megabytes of internal memory capacity that will store more than 50 different books simultaneously. Interactive content for all six of the launch titles (see below) will be preloaded onto the starter-set Poingo. Content for additional books will be available for download by consumers from www.mypoingo.com using the USB port on the Poingo unit, Poingo Content Manager™ and a home computer. The software is compatible with Mac OS X and Windows Vista/XP/2000.

Now, if you know my son, AJ, you will know WHY I am so excited about this product. AJ has both auditory and visual processing disorders, making it difficult for him to process information that he sees and hears. We have not attempted reading yet but we know that he has the visual form of VPD called dyslexia because of the way he sees b’s and d’s (and the way he speaks them sometimes).

(Updated 9/14/08) AJ has recently started trying his hand at sight words and at identifying the first letters in words (by hearing them…Wilson Reading System)  and I am very excited to be able to also introduce Poingo to him soon. To be able to match sounds with words? To have him be able to do it on his own and not have to listen to me? How FABULOUS!

At this time there are six debut titles, Cars, Cinderella, Winnie the Pooh, Sleeping Beauty, Lion King, and Finding Nemo. After the launch, there will be more titles added.

Guidelines for the giveaway:

We have one Poingo to giveaway.

My son will be 4 in October. He just learned to write his name and is sounding out some simple words!
He would be over the moon to have a neat reading toy like Poingo!

I too would love to use this with my son. He’s just starting to really enjoy books on his own.

This is the best idea! I would love to use this with my littlest ones. Then they can read even when mommy’s busy.

Hello! What an exciting learning to read innovation. I have not heard this product. I must be living in a cave. We have a six year old who would enjoy using it and I love the idea of headphones. Many thanks, Cindi

I have two childen, 6 years and 2 years. I can see both of my children enjoying and benefiting from such a gadget. I love the fact that the pen brings not only the characters and words to life, but that there are also sounds and MUSIC! This would make a perfect gift for my children.
